A Chinese export armorial octagonal dish
painted and gilt with a central coat of arms within a chain border and below shaped en grisaille panels of birds among flowers and figures in river landscapes -- 9½in. (24cm) diam, circa 1750.
See Illustration.
The arms are either continental or English as continental arms were sometimes altered when registered in England. Alternatively they may well be those of a family settled in the West Indies.
