La Belle au bois dormant or The Sleeping Princess was a three-act ballet based on the story by Charles Perrault (1628-1703) brought to the stage by Sergei Diaghilev (1872-1929) and the dancers of the Ballets Russes. Diaghilev commissioned Bakst to create the costumes and set for the ballet which opened in London at The Alhambra Theater on 2 November 1921.
