Thielman Kerver for Gilles Remacle, 1500/01
HORAE, use of Paris, in Latin and French. Paris: Thielman Kerver for Gilles Remacle, 3 February 1500/01.

Only copy recorded in the United States. Davies enumerated 12 metal-cut illustrations in Kerver’s first “small set,” ten of which are present in this edition. In addition, there are seven which belong to the set but are not mentioned by Davies. These too are derived from Pigouchet-Vostre set 2, with the exception of Job on his dung heap, which appears to be an original treatment depicting death murdering a man, with Job and his friends oblivious in the background. ISTC records only four other copies worldwide. Bohatta (1924) 241; Brunet V 1617, no. 167 bis; Goff H-355; GW 13107; ISTC ih00355000; Lacombe 101; Reichling IV 38, 1240. See Davies, Murray French, 265 & p. 305.

Octavo (178 x 113mm). Printed on vellum. 16 large cuts, numerous small cuts, each page within multi-piece historiated and ornamental border, initials painted in gold on blue or red grounds, text ruled in red. 19th-century dark blue blindstamped morocco, spine gilt, silk ribbon bookmark (very lightly rubbed); modern quarter morocco chemise and slipcase.
