Patek London Edition
To the best of our knowledge, this extremely rare ‘London Monuments’ reference 5089G-040, one of only 10 examples made, is the first to be offered at international auction.
The present reference 5089G-040 is one of the models of the already legendary ‘London Collection’ made to commemorate the prestigious Patek Philippe Grand Exhibition held at the Saatchi Gallery in 2015 as part of the company’s 175th anniversary celebrations. Made in 18 carat white gold, the ‘London Monuments’ as this watch is named, is fitted with an exceptional rare handicrafts hand-painted partly grisaille enamel dial, it was made in a highly exclusive very small edition of only 10 pieces.
Decorated with a beautiful and atmospheric cityscape with a mix of Old London architecture including Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament to more modern structures, the London Eye, Tower Bridge, and the Gherkin. All are hand-painted in grisaille enamel with coloured highlighting, a process whereby the artist builds up layers of white enamel upon the black background enamel to create deep tonal shading.
Inside this wonderful collector’s piece is the Patek calibre 240 ultra-thin automatic movement which can be viewed through the transparent caseback protected by a hinged cover.
The present watch provides collectors with an opportunity to obtain one of the key pieces of the ‘London Collection’ which almost never become available on the open market.
