The base is decorated in cloisonné enamel as a wind-tossed sea swirling around four shells that project from the corners. The central section is formed by two conjoined lozenges with openwork gilt-metal panels on the narrow sides, all set between bats amidst clouds above and below. The tiered six-sided superstructure is also decorated in cloisonné enamel, and surmounted by a hardstone finial.
