A RARE LARGE PAINTED CIZHOU TRUNCATED MEIPING
NORTHERN SONG-JIN DYNASTY (960-1234)
The vase has a rounded, tapering body below a slightly waisted neck that rises to a lipped rim, and is painted in blackish-brown slip with three blossoming floral sprigs, all under a clear glaze. The foot ring is unglazed exposing the grey body.

Another truncated meiping, but painted with two large peony sprays, rather than one peony spray and two leaf sprays like the present meiping, is in the William Rockhill Nelson Gallery-Atkins Museum of Fine Arts, Kansas City, and is illustrated by Yutaka Mino and K.
