When one or more of the levers is raised too high in an attempt to pick the lock, the Detector lever is engaged in a slot in the bolt so as to prevent it from being withdrawn even by the proper key. This frustrates the picking and alerts the authorized key-holder to the fact that an attempt has been made. The key has to be turned as for locking to release the detector.
