Cet ensemble s'inspire du service de l'Ordre de Saint Vladimir, créé pour Catherine II en 1783 par la manufacture Francis Gardner. Il complète les autres commandes de l'Impératrice pour les ordres de Saint George, de Saint André et de Saint Alexandre Nevskii, ces services étant utilisés lors des sessions annuelles des cérémonies de ces ordres.
