The reference 4647 evolved from the original cushion-shaped Oyster watches of the 1930s. This reference was also used for the “Army” model. The Everest trade name was used to commemorate the first airplane flight over Mount Everest in the 30s for which Rolex supplied Oyster watches to the pilots.
