The shape of this vase has its roots in Song-dynasty wares which were highly prized at the time, such as a Ge vase of similar form, dating to the Song period, in the Palace Museum Collection and illustrated in Porcelain of the Song Dynasty (II), The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum, Hong Kong, 1996, pl. 38.
