AN IMPERIAL EMBROIDERED YELLOW SATIN KANG COVER
QING DYNASTY, LATE 18TH-EARLY 19TH CENTURY
The cover is finely embroidered in satin stitch and couched to depict a central shaped medallion of bats and stylised ruyi heads enclosing two boxes and lilies with gold detailing surrounded by a dense stylised lotus scrolls framed by a rectangular cartouche, with further lotus scrolls on the border, all backed in yellow damask.

Easton Neston, Northamptonshire is an impressive and grand Baroque mansion designed by Nicholas Hawksmoor (1661-1736) for Sir William Fermor (1648-1711), later Lord Leominster. It remained the seat of Baron Fermor-Hesketh until 2005 when the house and its contents were sold.

The combination of lily and box conveys the wish for marital bliss, bai nian hao he, 'May you have one hundred years of good union'.
