The design of this Lesghi rug is both striking and unusual; although the ‘Lesghi star’ is not uncommon, they are typically arranged in a single-column format. A similarly archaic feeling example with a double columned composition and ‘S’ motif border, although on a blue field, is published by Giuseppe Cohen (Il Fascino del Tappeto Orientale, Milan, 1968, p.101).

This Seychour rug demonstrates a classic design sometimes known as Gollu Chichi, a very similar example with a yellow field is in the collection of Peter Peroff, Toronto (Natalia Nekrassova, From Ashgabat to Istanbul: Oriental Rugs from Canadian Collections, Toronto, 2014, p.67).
