The present lot ascribes to a number of the typical Talish characteristics, however, the floral-crab main border, stepped gable inner frame and central column of rosettes in the field are more unusual. A rug with a very similar composition, although described as woven in the Kuba region, is published by Eberhart Herrmann (E. Herrmann, Seltene Orientteppiche VI, Munich, 1984, pl.33, p.97). An even closer example, also dating to the late nineteenth century, can be found in Raymond Benardout’s Caucasian Rugs (London, 1978, p.74).
