With motto 'ICH DIEN' to case, with porcelain panels to the frieze, the dial signed 'Lawson & Son, Brighton, the movement with constant force detent escapement, the giltwood base impressed to the underside '32904 / DS / 712', later winding key

Randall (op cit) states that it appears this movement was made at the Horological School in Geneva by F.B. Lawson, while a student there, he was presented with a silver medal for it in 1864. It was then cased in its present form and presented to H.R.H. The Prince of Wales, later King Edward VII.
