Each plaque is delicately painted with two scholars in a garden scene, wearing long colourful robes and standing beside tall trees. All four plaques have a square seal mark in iron-red to one bottom corner. The reverse have oval seals containing the characters Nangchang Qi Bao Zhai chu pin, which may be translated as 'produced by the Hall of Qi Bao in Nanchang'.

The four seal marks to the front of the plaques contain the characters yan qing lou zhi, the hall mark of Cao Kun (1862-1938); da fan hua zhang, 'the seal of da fan'; yin zhong ba xian, 'the eight drunk immortals'; and yi shan wang kun, the seal mark of Wang Dafan (1888-1961).
