It has been suggested the present casket emanates from a school of of deliberate copiers of Renaissance treasures, working on the continent, mainly in the latter part of the 19th century. Reinhold Vasters (1827-1909), being one of the eminent figures in this category. Examples of his work can be seen in the British Museum, London and elsewhere, e.g. the Rospigliosi Cup (Metropolitan Museum, New York) formerly attributed to Cellini and later Biliverti.
