QIANLONG-JIAQING PERIOD (1736-1820)
The handle is inscribed with a lengthy inscription and a signature of Prince Yongxuan (1711-1799), followed by two seals, chen and Xuan, all between ruyi borders. The open end is encircled by a band of a striding chilong and two narrow rope-twist borders, and the domed terminal is carved with a flower head above a band of archaistic scrolls and pierced for a silk cord.

Yongxuan was the eighth son of the Qianlong Emperor, and, held a number of high-ranking official appointments during the Jiaqing period. The long inscription details his experience in hunting down a tiger at a military camp.
