The buffalo is well carved in a recumbent position with legs tucked beneath the full, rounded body and tail flicked to one side. The head is turned inquisitively towards the viewer, with broad mouth and rippled hide between the curved horns above hollowed ears. The top of the head is lightly incised with a whorl of hair. The stone is with satiny polish and of greyish-green colour with some brown and pale opaque mottling
