Solid cast, depicted recumbent with his forelegs extended and paws spread, his head turned to the right, with rounded ears and a full voluminous mane, radiating locks framing his face and flowing down his back, the tail curving over its haunches

This reclining bronze lion could perhaps be the antithetical match to no. 157 in A.P. Kozloff, ed., Animals in Ancient Art from the Leo Mildenberg Collection. According to Kozloff, this type is "almost certainly from the East, for it reveals a round face with a short muzzle, a collar-like inner mane, and a rather fleecy outer mane and belly--all of which ultimately reflect a Mesopotamian derivation."
