A RARE LARGE HUANGHUALI CORNER CABINET
QING DYNASTY, 17TH-18TH CENTURY
Of rectangular box construction, the square members of the frame holding tall, rectangular doors with matching panels. The outer frames and lower horizontal panel and apron are finely carved with birds amidst flower scrolls, the centre stile is carved with a classic floral scroll. The cabinet is supported on carved cabriole legs.

A similar zitan and huanghuali cabinet of this decorative design but carved with mythical lions on the floating panel, and anbaxiang motifs on the frames and apron, dating to the 17th century, is in the Liang Yi Collection, included in the exhibition, Splendor of Style: Classical Furniture from the Ming and Qing Dynasties, National Museum of History, Taipei, and illustrated in the Catalogue, 1999, p. 179. The Liang Yi cabinet is illustrated again in Liang Yi Collection, Zitan , Hong Kong, 2007, pp. 100-101, no. 34.
