Leonora Carrington (British/Mexican 1917-2011)
A Group of Three Drawings
a.) Untitled (Woman with Veil)
signed 'CARRINGTON" (lower left)
ink on paper
8 1/8 x 10 5/8 in. (20.6 x 27 cm.)
Executed circa 1941.

Provenance:
Julien Levy collection, New York (acquired directly from the artist).
Hommage à Julien Levy, Part 2, Paris, Espace Tajan, 8 June 2006, lot 248 (illustrated in color).
Acquired from the above.

The scholar Susan Aberth believes that this work is part of a series of undated notebook drawings more than likely realized by Carrington in Paris or St. Martin, and later acquired by Julian Levy in New York in 1941.

b. ) Untitled (Two Women)
ink on paper
10 x 7 in. (25.4 x 17.8 cm.)

The scholar Susan Aberth believes that this drawing of two rather glamorous women closely mirrors the photographs of Carrington in her debutante ball finery.

c.) Untitled (Princess Eating Bread and Honey)
watercolor, ink and graphite on paper
8 3/8 x 6 3/8 in. (21.3 x 16.2 cm.)

The scholar Susan Aberth believes that this drawing is part of Carrington's many fairy tale related drawings she did as an adolescent.

Provenance (b. and c.):
Maurice Lods collection, Saint-Martin-d'Ardèche, France (acquired directly from the artist).
Galerie 1900-2000, Paris.
Acquired from the above by the present owner (December 2006).
