Feodor Rückert often drew on Konstantin Makovsky's historical paintings for decorating his en plein panels. The painter's works evoked the romance of medieval Russia. They were a perfect match for Rückert's enamelled objects in Pan-Russian style which was favoured by wealthy merchants of Moscow. On this box Feodor Rückert used a fragment from Konstantin Makovsky's A Boyar Wedding Feast of the 17th Century, painted in 1883 (Hillwood Museum & Gardens, Washington D.C.).
