With an inscription cartouche reading ‘Awsiyyim’ (?) . Although this inscription does not appear to be translatable, when phonetically pronounced it sounds very much like O.C.M. (Oriental Carpet Manufactures. OCM was formed in 1908 in Smyrna, Turkey by a group of English businessmen. In the early years, they focused on carpet making in Persia and Turkey, but it was their revival of carpet weaving in India that was their biggest success, widely exporting carpets of traditional designs such as the present lot.
