For a vase of the same form and spirit exhibited at the Crystal Palace Exhibition of 1851, compare The Illustrated Exhibitor, a tribute to the World's Industrial Jubilee ..., London, 1851, p. 230 and The Art Journal Illustrated Catalogue: The Industry of All Nations, London, 1851, p. 172, here described as an object 'in the highest degree meritorious'. Also compare the example decorated by Charles Barriat and sold Christie's, New York, 24 October 2006, lot 166.

François-Edme Godin was recorded as a repairer at the factory from 1813-1848.
