The goblets were commissioned as a pair by The London Discount Market Association on the occasion of Lord Cromer's retirement from the Bank of England and are described by Whistler in the framed document sold with this lot. One of the goblets was broken and a replacement was made (the second goblet), but as Whistler disliked making copies it is slightly different from the description of the original given in this document.
