Of typical form, the leading edges engraved with scrolling vine on gold ground, the hinged lid of the inkwell in the form of an elegant cusped shell, the underside with an eagle, the symbol of John the Evangelist, and an Alpha Omega, the hinged end of the pencase with an openwork triangular finial, a long chain with a double sided seal bearing the name of Stephanos the Monk and two gold Ottoman coins dated AH 1203/1788-89 AD and with the tughra of Ottoman Sultan Abdulhamid I (r.1774-89)
