Tixi lacquer dishes of this type were made in both black and red lacquer. A similar dish in red lacquer, of somewhat smaller size (16.1 cm.) is illustrated in the catalogue of the Tenth Anniversary Special Exhibition, Chugoku no Shik Kogei (Chinese Lacquer Art), Shoto Museum of Art, Tokyo, 17 September - 4 November 1991, p. 32, no. 26, where it is dated 15th century.
