A WELL-CARVED PALE GREENISH-WHITE JADE EWER
18TH CENTURY
The ewer is raised on an oblong foot and is well carved in relief with an allover design of lingzhi that surrounds four panels of fruiting branches, each bearing two fruit, that represent the sanduo. Peaches, as well as a bat, are depicted in the two ruyi-shaped panels on the broad sides; a branch of finger citron is below the spout; and a branch of pomegranates is at the other end where it is overlapped by the base of the openwork, angular scroll handle around which twines a tree peony branch. There is some opaque mottling in the semi-translucent stone.
