The smaller fauteuil probably commissioned by Charles William Vane, 3rd Marquess of Londonderry (1778-1854) as part of drawing room suite, listed as including eighteen such chairs, for Wynyard Park, County Durham.

The smaller fauteuil: possibly, Wynyard Park inventory, 1886, vol. ii, p. 307, the drawing room ‘a set of 18 open armchairs en suite’ (part).
The small fauteuil: possibly, A. Hicks, David Hicks – A Life of Design, New York 2009, p. 104, illustrated in situ in the drawing room of Alexander Charles Robert Vane-Tempest-Stewart, 9th Marquess of Londonderry (1937-2012), at his Hampstead Home circa 1965.

The small fauteuil was probably commissioned from Bertram & Son, Dean Street, Soho, as indicated by Royal Aero Club, Londonderry House inventory, 1949, p. 31, where the set of identical design from Londonderry House is described.
