Oval with stand-away hinge, gilt interior, cover set with tortoiseshell panel, probably by Jean Obrisset, depicting Queen Anne in profile to sinister, inscribed around top of cover God bless Queen Anne. Marlborough for ever.

John Churchill, 1st Duke of Marlborough (1650-1722) was a celebrated soldier and statesman whose career spanned the reigns of five monarchs.
