The shape of this vase imitates the form of an archaic jade cong with a circular core and square sides. See a jade cong dated to the Neolithic period, Liangzhu Culture, in the Nanjing Museum, included in the Soloman R. Guggenheim Museum Exhibition, China, 5000 Years, New York, 1998, Catalogue, no. 5. Compare the present lot to a similar vase from the Yongzheng period (1723-1735), sold at Christie's Hong Kong, 3 December 2008, lot 2562.
