The present relief is comparable to an oval medallion, also surrounded by laurel leaf decoration, encased in the architectural decoration of a chimneypiece in the dining hall in Schloss Moritzburg, by the French artist Francois Coudray (1678-1727) (Souchal, 1977, loc. cit.). In the early eighteenth century it became popular for notable figures to be depicted in this fashion, imitating Girardon's portrayal of Louis XIV at the Hotel de Ville in Troyes (Souchal, 1993, loc. cit.).
