QING DYNASTY, LATE 18TH/19TH CENTURY
The censer is raised on three tapered legs and carved around the compressed globular body in low relief with a band of archaistic taotie masks divided by notched flanges, and flanked by a pair of bird-form handles to each side. The domed cover is similarly carved with three pairs of animal masks in profile, and surmounted by a hollowed flaring finial. The stone is of an even white tone with natural fissures and areas of mottled inclusions.
