The attribution has been confirmed by Marijke de Kinkelder, formerly of the RKD, The Hague, who dates the picture to c. 1680. She pointed out that the right half of a painting sold at Sotheby's, New York, 9 October 1980, lot 87, is a pastiche after the present composition.
