CASE: the rectangular case with chamfered top above a fluted frieze, with brass inlays to the angles, fish-scale sound frets to sides, on adjustable brass bun feet, on conforming brass-inlaid bracket DIAL: the silvered dial with Roman hours, blued-steel hands, signed 'JAMES MCCABE/ ROYAL EXCHANGE/ LONDON/ 3034', subsidiary dial for 'strike/silent' to arch MOVEMENT: the two-train chain fusee movement with recoil anchor escapement, rack striking to bell, with trip repeat and strike/silent, the back plate signed 'James McCabe/ London/ 3034'; two case keys, winding key, with pendulum

The firm of James McCabe superceded McCabe and Strachan in 1825/26 and operated from Royal Exchange (97 Cornhill) until 1838, when the Exchange was burnt down and the firm moved to 32 Cornhill.
