The rectangular trellis and rosette-carved back with a shaped top rail above pierced and C-scroll arms and a caned drop-in seat on square chamfered legs joined by similar H-stretchers and with brass caps and castors, old repairs, stamped 'I', inscribed to edge of drop-in seat '280', two stretchers replaced, slightly reduced in height
41¾ in. (106 cm.) high; 26¼ in. (67 cm.) wide; 30½ in. (78 cm.) deep

Almost certainly supplied to Edwin Lascelles, Lord Harewood (d.1795) and thence by descent at Harewood House, Yorkshire.

The chair reflects the George II style described as 'Modern', in Thomas Chippendale's, Gentleman and Cabinet-Maker's Director, 1754, Its pierced lattice back, laminated to offer strength and flexibility, recalls designs for 'Gothick Chairs' published in Robert Manwaring's The Cabinet and Chair-Maker's Real Friend and Companion, 1765, pl. 13.
