FIRST HALF OF THE 19TH CENTURY
The fan is carved and pierced all over with a dense ground of figures in various pursuits amongst pavilions, with one oval cartouche enclosing the monogram J.P.E., the upper section of the sticks with fish and marine creatures. The handles are delicately carved to one side with dragon, phoenix and auspicious animals, the reverse with flower sprays.
