Model butcher shops such as this were probably made to fulfill an educational role, designed to be studied rather than played with as toys, as the cuts of meat and types of carcasses are rendered with some accuracy. A nearly identical model was gifted to the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, by H.R.H. Queen Mary (W.58-1929), while a larger and more elaborate model made for the window display of a London butcher's shop was sold Woolley and Wallis, Salisbury, 3 April 2012, lot 630 (£22,000).
