The present porcelain sculpture is very likely one of the "6 bustes représentant Louis XV" included on the 1765 inventory of Mennecy porcelain wares in the stock of the Paris dealer Charles Hennique under the header Figures en Biscuit. See N. Duchon, La Manufactuure de Porcelain de Mennecy Villeroy, Le Mee-sur-Seine, 1988, p. 149; also W.B. Honey, French Porcelain of the 18th Century, 1950, p. 21.
