This amulet was pierced so it could be swen onto clothing. Amulet of this types often have the same inscription repeated twice on each side. For a discussion these gold discs, see Venetia Porter, Arabic and Persian Seals and Amulets in the British Museum, London, 2011, pp.158-163. Porter notes their resemblance with Ottoman coins from the 18th and 19th century.
