Each on raised base, the ringed baluster foot flanked by three storks and flaring into a skirting of hanging palmettes to support a shallow cusped tazza, the exterior's repoussé decoration consisting of exuberant floral sprays and scrolling tendrils arranged in panels, the base with a band of scrollworks, stamped OM, Bhuj within the hollow stem

Oomersi Mawji was the court silversmith of the ruler of Kutch, Maharao Shri Mirza Raja Sawai Khengarji Bahadurno. Kutch was a major centre for the production of silverware in the 19th century which was exported to Europe. Little of the vast output of Kutch pieces however remotely approached the quality of the work of Oomersi Mawji and his sons. For other pieces by this maker, see lots 575 and 579 in this sale.
