A GREEN AND RUSSET JADE HORSE AND MONKEY BELT BUCKLE
17TH/18TH CENTURY
The buckle is well-carved as a recumbent horse, the legs tucked under the body, and the head turned to look at the monkey clambering on its back. The monkey is carefully balanced on the horse while holding onto a branch bearing a ripe peach. The reverse has two rectangular loops for attachment. The well-polished stone is of pale grey color with areas of russet color highlighting the monkey, peach, and the horse's right haunch.
3¼ in. (8.2 cm.) wide
