A WHITE JADE ENTWINED CHILONG OPENWORK PENDANT
18TH/19TH CENTURY
The pendant is well carved as the entwined serpent-like bodies of four chilong that form an openwork quatrefoil. The well-polished stone is of even white color.

Compare the similar pendant in the Seattle Art Museum illustrated by James C.Y. Watt in Chinese Jades from Han to Ch'ing, The Asia Society, New York, 1980, p. 204, no. 202, where it is dated late Song to Ming dynasty. The same pendant was similarly dated when published again by Watt and Michael Knight in Chinese Jades from the Collection of the Seattle Art Museum, 1989, p. 69, no. 45.
The shape of this pendant forms the rebus, jiao jie sifang (to have close ties all around).
