A RARE BARREL-SHAPED YIXING TEAPOT
DAOGUANG PERIOD, INSCRIBED XINCHOU DATE, CORRESPONDING TO 1841 AND OF THE PERIOD
The teapot is of barrel shape with a waisted neck and base, and applied with a 'C'-scroll handle and a short curved spout. The flat cover is applied with a link finial, which is pierced with a quatrefoil opening. The cover is inscribed with a poetic inscription Songfeng Shuiyue - 'Pine breeze, water moon', followed by the date and a signature 'Lian Pu'. The base is impressed with a collector's mark Lan Juan qing pin - 'For the clear appreciation of Lan Juan'.

Shuai Hanjie, sobriquet Lan Juan, was a female poet, also of the Daoguang period. Another teapot bearing the marks of Lian Pu and Lan Juan qing pin was published in Huzhong Tiandi (The world of Yixing teapot), 1987-1, p. 24.
