The Bodhisattva is modelled seated in lalitasana on a double lotus pedestal on top of an elephant, his hands raised in vitarka mudra holding the ends of two lotus sprays, and wears a five-leaf diadem, flowing shoulder scarf and dhoti. The bejewelled and caparisoned elephant is modelled standing foursquare on four open lotus attached to the oblong lotus pedestal.

The present Bodhisattva is identified as Samantabhadra, or Puxian Pusa. The deity is known as 'He whose bounty is omnipresent' and represents the Buddhist Law and compassion. Samantabhadra is associated with Manjusri, or Wenshushili Pusa, Bodhisattva of Wisdom. Samantabhadra usually appears alongside Manjusri as the acolytes of Sakyamuni, forming a group of known as the three venerables of Sakyamuni.
