Clairelynn Uy is an exciting painter, whose works strongly evoke of the comic-strip-like representations by Roy Lichtenstein. Uy's bright graphics and witty meta-references reveal an endearing ability to parody humor and whimsy in a striking manner. Bird Crash depicts an explosion of two planes crashing into each other. The cartoon style is heightened by the outlandish force of the explosion, and Uy creates another pictorial layer through the photorealistic portrayal of placid birds ignorant of the impending crash. This juxtaposition between a chaotic background and placidly unaware central subjects is a specialty of Uy's, and manifests spectacularly throughout her refreshing compositions.
