With Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirming production of the present watch with silvered dial and black indexes in 1937 and its subsequent sale on 8 February 1938.

The present lot is fresh to the market and further to our research, less than 13 examples are known to date. It is furthermore in overall very good condition.

Reference 492 was in production from 1936 until the late 1940s.
The modern, yet typical Art Deco style case of reference 492 was designed to fit around the wrist and is also called "Railway" because of its aerodynamic look and the stepped sides.

The highly elegant design of the model served as inspiration for the creation of reference 5105, the limited edition in platinum made to commemorate the reopening of Patek Philippe's Salons in Geneva in 2006.
