The unusual medallion of a 'Roman worthy' can also be found on: a side table probably acquired by Joseph McGrath (d. 1769) for Cabinteely House, Co. Dublin and sold Christie's house sale, 5-6 November 1984, lot 99 (see The Knight of Glin and J. Peill, op. cit., p. 233, fig. 119 and color plate on p. 220); and a writing cabinet from Glin Castle, made for Sir Richard St George (1718-1789) of Woodsgift, Co. Kilkenny and sold Glin Castle: A Knight in Ireland; Christie's, London, 7 May 2009, lot 56 (ibid., p. 75, fig. 90). Similar Roman masks also feature on a staircase frieze from Bishop Clayton's house, now part of Iveagh House, St Stephen's Green, Dublin (ibid, p. 74, fig. 88). The satyr mask legs compare to a drop-leaf table, also from Glin, lot 94 in the sale (illustrated p. 242, fig. 158).
