Each dish shaped circular with fluted body, the border gadrooned with acanthus and shells at intervals, the domed cover with conforming decoration, the finial modeled as oak branches with leaves and acorns on a matted ground, the cover engraved with a coat-of-arms, together with later 19th-century silver plated stands, marked under dishes, under covers, on finials, and nuts

The arms are those of Newman quartering Holdsworth and impaling those of Denne, for Sir Robert William Newman (1776-1848) of Mamhead, Devon, Whig politician and MP for Exeter. He married in 1813 Mary-Jane, daughter of Richard Denne, Esq. of Winchelsea and was created 1st baronet in 1836.
