The present reference 6234 is a fine example of this much sought-after Oyster chronograph, which was a forerunner of the Cosmograph Daytona family of watches. In stainless steel and with its characteristic dial displaying both a telemetre and a tachymetre scale, this watch further attracts by the sharp milling and the engraved word "STAINLESS STEEL" on the back, underlining the overall original condition of the case. It is rare to find this engraving, placed just around the edge of the back and near the milling, as it mostly disappears after the first polishing.

Different examples of reference 6234 are illustrated in 100 Superlative Rolex Watches by John Goldberger, pp. 120-127, as well as in I Cronografi Rolex - La Leggenda, Pucci Papaleo Editore, pp. 254-276 and in 100 Years of Rolex by Guido and Franca Mondani, p. 79.
